Future of Mobile?
Undeniably the mobile phone market is hot.
With so much competition, how does a new mobile phone get to market?
Apple continues its battle for the top in the smartphone wars with Samsung, releasing two new phones last month, the iPhone 5S and 5C.
And whilst Blackberry continues to struggle (it has agreed in principle to be bought by a consortium led by Fairfax Financial for £3bn), Microsoft’s Windows Phone is gaining market share particularly following the recent purchase of the Nokia’s phone business.
So with so much competition, how does a new mobile phone get to market? Phonebloks a new type of mobile phone intends to do just that.
With a smart move by going straight to the customer, Dave Hakkens released a video to put an idea out in the world for a more ‘sustainable’ mobile. A nimble and modifiable system, which allows the user to assemble their own phone with the software and hardwear features they desire or need the most, effectively eliminating the need to have to discard the phone for a new upgrade.
Personally I think this is not only a noble but refreshing and welcome idea, but how will the big players react to this? And will the viral video motivate the mass consumer to help to make it a reality?
Will this ‘Lego’ block approach be the future of mobile?
